Detroit was once the 4th largest city in the United States. After the riots of 1967 the city saw a precipitous economic decline that bottomed out in 2013 with the first municipal bankruptcy of major American city.
I believed that part of this story of Detroit could be seen in the way the people live there lives and the culture of the streets.
So I've explored the city for the signs of hope, people making a difference and those striving just to get to the next day.
May approach to this portfolio was to document the people of Detroit as they portrayed them selves.
In the faces of Detroit I found hope and celebration, empathy and despair, and the foundations of help and survival.
